There’s few things better than picking up some delicious treats, making a picnic and heading off to spend some time with friends and family. Which is why one of our favorite summer activities in Barcelona is going to see a movie under the stars.
Make sure not to miss out on some of these outdoor cinemas in Barcelona during July and August—and don’t forget the cava!
An outdoor cinema at the foot of a castle—does it get any better than that? Apparently it does, because not only does Montjuic’s outdoor summer cinema offer a great selection of flicks, but they are also accompanied by small live music performances beforehand. You can even rent some seriously comfortable lounge chairs, in case you forgot your blanket.
Basic entrance is €6, though there are other combinations that include live music or a visit to the castle. Another great new introduction to the program is their Eco-Picnics to make your visit even more stress free! From veggie burgers, hummus dips and samosas—you won’t go hungry here. Order online while booking your tickets and your picnic will be ready to collect once you get there! How’s that for service? The cinema takes place Wednesdays and Fridays until the first week of August.
Go for a swim, have a snack and get to the Sant Sebastià beach in Barceloneta before sundown to catch one of the summer flicks on Thursday and Sunday nights. It’s a favorite spot for locals to see a movie outside in Barcelona, and one of the most scenic of the outdoor cinemas in Barcelona! Space is limited so make sure you get there early if you want a good spot! The cinema runs until the second week of August. You can find the agenda here.
Bustling Barceloneta not your scene? Fear not! In 2017, they added not one, not two, but three more beaches to the event list! And all of them are equally as great as the next! Movies will be shown in Badalona, El Prat and Mataró beaches. So grab your beach towels and some tasty eats and make sure you don’t miss out. Let’s face it: the cinema, sea breeze and fun with friends. Just tell us that’s not all of the ingredients of a great night!
What better way to finish a day at the awesome Science Museum that is of course, CosmoCaixa than to chill out in their open-air cinema right outside? Every Thursday in July and the first in August from 9 pm indulge your senses in a cultural treat. The night kicks off in its Plaza de la Ciencia with a concert including some great local jazz bands. The 2017 season is inspired by the newest exhibition being hosted by the museum, Talking Brains, with all of the agenda based around how we communicate as humans. Think sci-fi and Steven Spielberg and you’re close. Grab a deck chair, some snacks and a cold Estrella from the café and you’re all set for a thrill-filled evening at one of our favorite outdoor cinemas in Barcelona.
The CCCB, or Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona, calls its outdoor summer cinema by the name of Gandules. Each year, Gandules follows a different theme, the 2017 theme being one of our absolute favorites. A whole summer devoted to the wild and dangerous women in the world of cinema. And better yet—it’s free! This is definitely the place to come for a more alternative selection of films in the patio of one of Barcelona’s most active cultural centers. You’ll be guaranteed a terrific night. Call your best girlfriends and get ready to celebrate.
Cine al Aire Libre–l’Illa Diagonal
Every Thursday in July, find yet another of the outdoor cinemas in Barcelona at a beautiful little park near the upper end of Diagonal Avenue. Nestle into the sundrenched Gardens of San Juan De Dios from 9 pm each week. It’s only €3.50 entrance, and a mere €2 more to rent a lounge chair.
