Everything You Need to Know about Visiting Barcelona Right now

What is happening in Barcelona right now?

To understand what’s happening right now, first let’s look at what’s happened in the past. Barcelona is the capital of a region called Catalonia, and Catalonia has a very long history. It has its own identity, culture, traditions and even language, which can be traced back more than 1,000 years. Although Catalonia has been part of Spain for hundreds of years, the Catalan people have kept and maintained their cultural identity over the centuries.

Over the last 10 to 15 years, there’s been a big debate about whether Catalonia should remain a part of Spain or become an independent republic, with lots of passionate people on both sides. This year, the Catalan government organized a vote and declared independence from Spain. The Spanish government does not recognize this vote or declaration, and considers them to be violations of the Spanish constitution. As of October 2017, it still remains to be seen exactly how it will all turn out. What we can say for sure is that this is a historical time to be in Barcelona!
